8 Restaurants in Ubud, Bali Worth to Visit

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

As I said on the latest post, my recent trip was more like a restaurant tour in Ubud, Bali. Ubud was nearly empty due to the pandemic, but it’s perfect for me who was purposely coming to Ubud to find some peace and serene moments after the bustling life in Jakarta. During my stay in Ubud, most of time I wandered around the town to find restaurants and cafes to eat, reading, and writing (also working). Meanwhile, I also found cute shops which I might have never visited if Ubud were crowded with tourists and had some shopping too. Here are the restaurants in Ubud, Bali that I think worth visiting :

  1. Warung Siam
Restaurants Ubud, Bali

I passed this restaurant when I was wandering the center of Ubud town. Its red bright exterior and small patio caught my eye. Since Thai food is one of my favorite food around the world, I didn’t want to miss the chance to try their Pad Thai or Green Curry Chicken. The waitress said the owner is Thai, and the food has authentic flavors. It turned out their Pad Thai didn’t disappoint me. It tasted similar to Thai food I’ve had in Larb Thai Cuisine, a Thai restaurant in PIK, North Jakarta, which is also owned by a Thai.

This small restaurant in Ubud, Bali seems pretty popular. I went there on Sunday afternoon, lunchtime, and couldn’t get a seat since it’s already packed with people! I then returned there on the next day, deliberately came after lunchtime to ensure I could get a seat there. One part of Warung Siam I like is their patio. It’s nice for reading and people watching.

2. Ramen Dining Kazumi

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Not too far from Warung Siam, there is a tiny ramen noodles restaurant owned by a Japanese guy. I went there once and had their authentic ramen noodles. If you’re looking to taste ramen noodles with genuine flavors in a Japanese-styled interior restaurant, then Ramen Dining Kazumi is definitely one of the restaurants in Ubud, Bali you should pay a visit to. Besides ramen noodles, it also serves gyoza, deep-fried chicken (karaage), takoyaki, deep-fried octopus, tofu salad, and edamame. The restaurant has a great Japanese ambiance with a classic Sushi bar to sit in, and the owner also being attentive to his customers.

This restaurant in Ubud, Bali is also very popular among local Ubudians and Indonesian tourists. Whenever I passed Jalan Goutama Selatan, where it is located, I couldn’t see any empty seats there. So, if you wanna dine in here, you’d better making a reservation first (for a minimum of 4 people) and do not come on Monday as it’s closed.

3. Kebun Bistro

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Located in the heart of Ubud, there is a charming French restaurant that’s too cool to be missed. Kebun Bistro is a charming Provencal-style bistro, offers authentic Mediterranean cuisine in a delightful atmosphere. It’s been around in Ubud since when I lived in Bali, and that’s roughly 8 years ago. It’s hard not to notice one of the restaurants in Ubud, Bali since its exterior is highly aesthetically pleasing.

I had their menu of the day for dinner, which consists of chicken and mushroom stroganoff served in a garlic bread cob loaf, ice tea, and vanilla ice cream served with pineapple and strawberry chunks. I like their food, the presentation, ambiance, but on top of that, they have a very nice service and I love it. As I told you in my last post about my peaceful and serene holiday in Ubud, I fell then I barely could get up and walking. That incident happened in Kebun Bistro. When the staff knew what happened to me, she immediately gave me a bag of ice cubes to reduce the pain and swelling. She also helped me to get up to the Grab bike I’ve ordered.

Overall, I like spending time in Kebun Bistro and would definitely be revisiting it whenever I go to Ubud. It’s great for reading and working since the inside part is quiet and equipped with air-conditioners, while the outdoor part is very cozy.

4. Kafe Ubud

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Something on this cafe reminds me of cafes along Old Quarter, Hanoi, Vietnam. I think it’s because of the colorful paints they use, the lanterns, and their cafe signage. I came here to have a coffee then decided to have lunch also. As a health-conscious I like that Kafe Ubud serves wholesome food, with vegetarian and vegan options, from local and organic suppliers. The vegan green curry I had was pretty good, so did its cappuccino.

Kafe Ubud serves world cuisine dishes, ranging from Mexican, Thai, Italian, and Indonesian specialties. Besides the food, I like the laid-back atmosphere of this cafe, so I don’t mind sitting here without AC. I could get upstairs if the weather feels too warm. If you want to eat healthy food, you could consider coming to one of the restaurants in Ubud, Bali. Kafe Ubud is located right next to Kebun Bistro.

5. Murni’s Warung

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Murni’s Warung is the first restaurant in Ubud I visited right after I put my bags in the hotel. I was nearly starving, so I ordered Nasi Campur to compensate for my lack of carbohydrates that day. I chose this restaurant because it has good reviews on some websites, and they’re right. I was satisfied with the food (partially because I was too hungry haha). But I like this restaurant among other Balinese food restaurants in Ubud, Bali.

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Murni’s Warung is an open-air restaurant with a traditional Balinese atmosphere overlooking a river in Ubud. It’s been around since 47 years ago!

If you wanna have good Balinese and Indonesian food and enjoy the river view (or daydreaming), you could come to Murni’s Warung.

6. Monsieur Spoon

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

It’s a good spot to open your laptop and stay for long hours. I went to Monsieur Spoon to have a cappuccino as I need it to help me finish my work. Monsieur Spoon Ubud has indoor and outdoor seating, at the front part and at the back. I chose to sit inside as it’s air-conditioned. The interior is modern and minimalistic. It’s known for breakfast also for its croissant and pastries. It also just opened in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, so no wonder many Jakartans who are curious about its branch in Ubud also come here.

Address : Jl. Hanoman No.10, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

7. BEBEK BENGIL

Fried duck is one of the signature cuisines of Bali. You should pay a visit to Bebek Bengil as it becomes one of the most well-known restaurants in Ubud, Bali serving Bebek (duck) as the main dish. I had lunch there with some friends before heading to Kintamani. For me, Bebek Bengil tastes better than Bebek Tepi Sawah, it’s main competitor. The meat here is tender while the skin is crispy. Bebek Goreng (fried duck) in Bebek Bengil is served with selections of vegetables and sambal. After finish your meals, you could stroll around to a little pavement to enjoy the ricefield view at the back part of the restaurant.

8. BEBEK TEPI SAWAH

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

This restaurant is very popular among Indonesian tourists. Similar to Bebek Bengil, their signature dish is Bebek (duck), called Tepi Sawah crispy duck here. Their crispy duck is just okay for me, but I love the rice field view, it’s very nice. Bebek Tepi Sawah has some outlets around Bali, such as in Kuta and Beachwalk mall. But if you want to sit in a best restaurant in Ubud with a view while enjoying some crispy duck, you should definitely come to one of the restaurants in Ubud, Bali.

Besides having tour to restaurants in Ubud, Bali, I also managed to see some cool stuff offered in stores. As a center for yoga, wellbeing, and healing, also for healthy lifestyle, its easy to see stuff related with it all around Ubud. I got a pretty stone jewelry from Ubuddah in an affordable price, also some organic soaps that I’ve found in Bali Buda. Coconut soap and body shower is not common in Indonesia, so I felt lucky to find it in Ubud hahaha.

BONUS FEATURE : HEJO

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Before I left Bali, I took some time to stroll around Canggu, as I was planning to stay & work from Canggu in the near future. A little cafe at Jalan Batu Mejan caught my attention. Turned out it serves a selection of healthy food. Wow, that’s interesting. I tried one of their brekkie wraps, it’s a bunch of veggies wrapped in a tortilla. It surprisingly tastes good! I also love their cappuccino.

Restaurants Ubud, Bali

Hejo serves salad with 15 options of dressing, healthy tortillas, brekkie wrap/ bowl, smoothie, cold-pressed juice, and coffee. It’s open from 8 AM to 8 PM. I’ll return to them when I live in Canggu next time!

Actually, there are more restaurants in Ubud, Bali that I’ve been wanting to try but I didn’t have enough time to visit such as Room 4 Dessert, a Chinese restaurant at the intersection of Jalan Goutama, and I also want to return to Ithaka as well.
