Things To Do for a Fancy Weekend Trip in Ubud,Bali

Ubud Bali

Approaching high season in Bali, tourist begins to arrive on the Island of Gods. For those who fancy a nice vacation while soaking in the culture, the Bali cultural hub, Ubud, is a must-visit destination. I went there last week for a sort of mini honeymoon. We had a rather fancy weekend trip to Ubud, Bali ranging from staying in a 5-star hotel in the heart of Ubud to tasting the extravaganza 15-course dessert as we’ve seen on Netflix Chef’s Table and enjoying the magnificent view of Mount Batur.

Located at Jalan Bisma is the luxuriously stylish boutique hotel Adiwana Bisma. We found this serene and elegant retreat back when we stayed in Ubud, Bali last December, but unfortunately at that time, we stayed at another hotel. I love that Adiwana Bisma has a beautifully designed room with a terrace overlooking the rice field.

I wanted to spend more time inside this elegant and spacious room, soaking in a bathtub, and watching the farmers plant rice, but after taking a rest in our room for a while, we went up to swim and enjoy the vibe around the infinity pool.

For a night stay, we paid Rp.2.900.000,- ($193,5/ 179 Euro), included with all-day breakfast at Pistachio restaurant. I have to say I am not a fan of their breakfast since I prefer buffet breakfast, but nevertheless, I truly enjoyed our stay in Adiwana Bisma. The bed is comfy, the atmosphere is serene, the staff is so nice and friendly, they even sent us a wedding cake as a gift for our wedding. Wonderful! I definitely recommend you to stay here if you want to have a wonderful experience while staying in Ubud, Bali.

In the evening, we head to Jalan Raya Sanggingan, Kedewatan to have dinner in a restaurant we have been wanting to visit for a long, Room4Dessert. It was Adrien’s idea to go there, not mine. In fact, I frown when Adrien suggested having dinner in Room4Dessert in Ubud, Bali, right after we watched an episode of the Netflix documentary series Chef’s Table. I mean, they only serve dessert, how could I spend 2,5 hours at dinner eating dessert only?

It turns out Room4Dessert is a one-of-a-kind experience one must try in Ubud, Bali. The dinner is unforgettable for us. Will Goldfarb, the American pastry chef behind the success of the original Room4Dessert in New York City has transformed his imagination into 15 unique and offbeat dessert creations. He uses some local ingredients to create some of the desserts such as chayote, papaya, suji, and pandan leaves and some of it is my favorite!

Before being taken to our seats, the staff gave us a mini tour of the garden that surrounds the main restaurant building. This garden contained plants and herbs that Goldfarb used to make desserts. We sit in the open space area to enjoy 5 kinds of desserts, then move to the main building to taste 5 other desserts. At the end of dinner, we are ushered to sit near the garden to finish 5 more desserts.

From 15 desserts, I have 3 dishes that become my favorite: Brie de Meow, a pannacotta made with suji and pandan sauce, Bread and Sorrow, and Puppy Miyake. The last one has a unique presentation in which I have to sprinkle salt on top of a chocolate-based dessert and then spray a food perfume. For 15 desserts with spiritless drinks, we paid Rp. 1.290.000,- ($86/ 79,5 Euro) per person. If you want to dine in Room4Dessert Ubud, Bali, make sure to make a reservation on their website, and don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent since their open space areas have a lot of mosquitoes after dark.

On the next day, we hired a car and driver to enjoy some nature in the Kintamani area. On the way there, we stopped at Tegallalang Rice Terrace, a series of beautifully arranged paddies that follows the traditional Balinese irrigation system called “subak”. It’s nice to absorb the beauty of green scenery at Tegallalang although it has been heavily commercialized compared to a few years ago.

Around Tegallalang Rice Terrace, coffee shops, restaurants, and swimming pools have been built to accommodate tourists who want to enjoy the rice terrace view. Indeed, there are quite a lot of facilities, but that also makes the view and atmosphere don’t look natural.

In 31 minutes, we arrived in Kintamani. This time, we chose Ritatkala to have lunch and enjoy the breathtaking view of Mount Batur. This restaurant has a modern interior, is not too crowded, and is in a perfect location that overlooks the majestic mountain. I had Mujair Nyat-Nyat, the specialty food of Kintamani for lunch. It tastes good and a bit spicy although the fish is a bit smaller compared to another restaurant I visited in Kintamani.

One thing I noticed during this trip is our driver took a different route to go to Kintamani, resulting in us having to pay an “entrance fee” to Kintamani. That’s a bit weird and silly, Kintamani is an area, not an attraction managed by some companies thus required a ticket to enter. We’ve been here many times, taken another road by car but never got stopped and asked for an entrance fee. I paid Rp.50.000,- per person just to avoid trouble with the locals. If you guys plan to go to Kintamani, you should take another road that is not guarded by the villagers asking for an “entrance fee”.

Overall, our mini honeymoon in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia was pleasant, and next time we’re gonna explore other parts of Bali to have other adventures.
