7 French Restaurants in Bali You Shouldn’t Miss On The Paradise Island

French restaurant Bali

Bali is becoming a real foodie destination, with all the best cuisines from around the world now on our tiny paradise island, including French cuisines & delicacies. Whether you are into having croissants for breakfast or tasting steak tartare for dinner, Bali has many options. I’ve been tasting French cuisine at many French restaurants in Bali on a regular basis, so now I will share with you which French restaurant in Bali you should go to if you miss a particular French food or want to expand your culinary adventures.

  1. The Lodge
French restaurant Bali

Located in the quiet neighborhood of Seseh and adjacent to a villa with the same name is The Lodge. The restaurant which decorated with a modern cozy interior design overlooking the rice field. The creation of chef Jonatha Robinet has never failed to satisfy our buds, so we keep coming back for the steak tartare and Il Pepe, a pan-seared barramundi served with green beans, tomatoes, butter white wine sauce, capers, and white rice. I love the food taste here but also because of how generous the portions are, especially for the burger and Il Pepe. The staff is also very friendly and always makes sure we enjoy the food & time.

It’s not only a French restaurant in Bali but also a cafe so you can work from here. On the corner, there is a small boutique space showcasing products from Bali fashion & homeware brands.

2. Sardine

French restaurant Bali

The French restaurant located in Petitenget, Bali offers a unique dining experience. It’s housed in a striking bamboo structure overlooking a vista of endless rice paddies. Sardine which was reopened after the pandemic ended serves French cuisine that is healthy, tasty, and perfectly suited to the warmer climate of Bali using both fresh seafood and homegrown organic vegetables. Sardine is the perfect place if you want to witness the sun sets while savoring tuna tartare, foie gras, and seared duck breast & leg confit.

3. Normandy

French restaurant Bali

The French restaurant in Bali you should go to when you’re craving good crepes. I’ve been here a few times since I love to eat crepes whether it’s for main course or for dessert, including one time to celebrate Adrien’s birthday party. From the outside, Normandy easily catches the attention as it’s housed in a Joglo house decorated with Normandy elements. You’ll spot half-timbered decorations and a Normandy coat of arms on the restaurant as well. As you might have guessed, the owner of Normandy, Greg, comes from the region in the north of France.

Some menu I recommend you to try in the French restaurant in Bali is Complete, a crepe made using Paris ham, French Emmental cheese, egg, salad, and tomato. Meanwhile, for the sweet crepe, try Nutella crepe.

4. Folie

French restaurant Bali

Known as the cutest place in Canggu or the most chic French restaurant in Bali, Folie also offers fabulous cuisine to match. Chef Stephane Simond and his team offer incredible French cuisine ranging from French pattiserie (those butter croissants though…) all the way to lunch and dinner, with highlights including scrumptious steaks, moreish salads, and the gorgeous angel hair pasta served with Japanese scallops. They also serve afternoon tea on their chic indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for photo ops.

5. Kebun Bistro

French restaurant Bali

Located in the heart of Ubud, there is a charming French restaurant in Bali that’s too cool to be missed. Kebun Bistro is a charming Provencal-style bistro, that offers authentic Mediterranean cuisine in a delightful atmosphere. It’s been around in Ubud since when I lived in Bali, and that’s roughly 10 years ago. It’s hard not to notice the French restaurant in Ubud, Bali since its exterior is highly aesthetically pleasing.

I had their menu of the day for dinner, which consisted of chicken and mushroom stroganoff served in a garlic bread cob loaf, ice tea, and vanilla ice cream served with pineapple and strawberry chunks. I like their food, the presentation, ambiance, but on top of that, they have a very nice service and I love it. As I told you in my last post about my peaceful and serene holiday in Ubud, I fell then I barely could get up and walk. That incident happened in Kebun Bistro. When the staff knew what happened to me, she immediately gave me a bag of ice cubes to reduce the pain and swelling. She also helped me to get up to the Grab bike I’d ordered.

Overall, I like spending time in Kebun Bistro and would definitely be revisiting it whenever I go to Ubud. It’s great for reading and working since the inside part is quiet and equipped with air-conditioners, while the outdoor part is very cozy.

6. Warung Gouthe

French restaurant Bali

Been here for multiple times since 2017 and I always come back to Warung Gouthe for their homemade French breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The French restaurant in Bali serves homemade French food with brochette (a dish of skewered meat or fish chunks, grilled or roasted) as their main specialty. You can also find some typical French desserts like meringue. I love the casual setting and ambiance of the restaurant in Canggu, Bali. It feels like having meals in the countryside of France or at home backyard.

I often find Warung Gouthe full with guests every time I passed Jalan Pantai Berawa where it is located. To avoid crowds, I suggest you come after lunchtime, around 2-5 PM. That’s also my preferred time to visit Warung Gouthe since I like to go there to work and I need a quiet place to concentrate on my work.

7. Lulu Bistrot

French restaurant Bali

Lulu Bistrot is a French restaurant and bar located in Canggu, Bali, serving thoughtful French food. They follow French cooking and traditions, whilst celebrating local and seasonal ingredients, some of the world’s finest produce, and wine. Inspired by the grand cafes of Paris with creative energy and relaxed atmosphere, it’s old school and contemporary, refined and rowdy all at once.

The French restaurant in Canggu looks so chic, that it’s hard to resist the temptation to sit and have a cocktail on a fine afternoon/ evening in Lulu, so we did. Lulu Bistrot is a must-visit if you are missing Paris cafe vibes.

Actually, there is one more French restaurant in Bali that I and Adrien quite often visit, but unfortunately, Olala in Umalas closed a few months ago and has been replaced by a new restaurant called Leon. But it’s okay, we can still occasionally visit The Lodge or Normandy when I am craving crepe. What’s your favorite French restaurant in Bali? Which is the best French restaurant in Bali according to you? Let me know in the comments.
